Oranges, 3 ways

Imagine that you are walking down the aisle of fruit at the supermarket. Come across a wide exposure of oranges and stupidly pick a few and bag them, thinking they are all the same. Never judge an orange from his skin! From the outside, the blood orange — orange Florida's cousin — foolish to think just how can any other Orange. But once you come off the rind, you will discover the pulp uniquely colored, ranging from a deep orange red dot for a solid Crimson, which is almost the colour of blood (hence the name).

Characteristic brown hue of blood oranges is because the antioxidant anthocyanin. Antioxidants may help prevent cancer and heart disease, but in particular anthocyanins help reduce LDL cholesterol (which is kinda crappy) and maintain blood vessels, flexible and strong. (Maybe Orange called "blood" is a double entendre). The flesh of these oranges is also rich in fiber, which keeps the digestive tract in tip-top shape and helps prevent constipation. Oranges are a good source of folate vitamin B, which is essential for the healthy development of the foetus and slowed brain aging.

And of course, we can't talk about oranges without mentioning vitamin c. This is another antioxidant that is the key to the healing and repair of damaged tissues throughout the body, iron absorption and, of course, strengthen the immune system. Fortunately for you, the flu season and blood orange overlay. With an orange that contains more than 100 percent of the daily dose, I say start peeling!
